When we think of acne, we think of oily, shiny skin. So it may come as a surprise when our dry winter skin paves the way for an acne breakout. Acne is not a condition limited to those with oily skin. People with dry skin can have acne too.
If you were to watch commercials on television for acne products you would walk away with a very limited view on what type of acne products are available. That is, the vast majority of the products promoted on television are primarily benzoyl peroxide topical creams or stringent pads designed to either dry out the pimple or clean dirt from the pores. The success of these products can vary but they are not bad overall. Of course, not everyone reacts positively to these products. Sometimes, they actually can have the inverse affect that they were intended and actually can make the acne infestation worse!
Treatments for acne include medicines and creams containing various antibacterial agents. Acne will generally reappear quite soon after the end of many types of treatment-days later in the case of topical applications, and weeks later in the case of oral antibiotics. Treatment will therefore typically have to continue until the person reaches their 20s.
